Ontario has officially released the EOI scoring grid for the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS).
If you are currently on a PGWP, closed work permit, or working in Ontario, here are the 2 big things you need to know to adapt your PR strategy:
1️⃣ Express Entry vs. Non-Express Entry (Your Choice)
Under the new OWPS framework:
- TEER 0 to 3 applicants & Self-employed Physicians can now choose whether to link their nomination to an Express Entry profile.
- TEER 4 to 5 applicants will follow the traditional base (non-Express Entry) nomination track.
Why this matters: Linking to Express Entry can significantly cut federal PR processing times once nominated—if you meet federal eligibility!
2️⃣ The Points System: Where Are Points Won or Lost?
Ontario’s new EOI grid rewards candidates based on specific economic factors:
- Hourly Wage Rate: Up to 15 points (e.g., $40+/hr = 15 pts, $25–$29.99/hr = 8 pts).
- Sector Priorities: Top points go to Healthcare (10 pts) and Trades/Transport (8 pts).
- Language (CLB): Up to 15 points for CLB 9+ in English or French.
- Ontario Income History: Up to 8 points based on your highest CRA Notice of Assessment over the past 5 years.
- Valid Work Permit Status: 10 points for holding a valid work permit.
What should you do right now?
- Calculate your score before the EOI system opens: Know where you sit under the new matrix so you aren’t guessing when draws begin.
- Review your NOC & TEER: Ensure your job duties match your NOC, as skill levels determine whether Express Entry is an option for you.
- Max out your language score: Boosting your language score by just 1 CLB level can yield critical points in this competitive pool.
